Tegu's that act like dogs...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The way they are climbing all over him reminds me of the kittens we used to have. I'm still trying to convince the wife that we have room for a tegu.

That is a pretty funny video. My old pair of leopard geckos do that when I'm cleaning they're tank, but not to that extent!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but it looks more to me like they are basically trying to get the best basking spot...and that could mean climbing the "human basking branch" that just showed up in their enclosure.

That being said, they are pretty tame and it looks like he doesn't feed them huge live rats like other Tegu owners...

those are black and white Argentina Tegu, they grow HUGE.. like 5ft :O

they are very calm n get to use to ppl a lot quicker than Columbia Tegu..

But Columbia tegu only grow to 3ft, a lot smaller thou

That video was recorded on a sunny day when the temperature was 89 degree's out, they do it for his affection - not for the basking spot.

Here's a link to the entire article and some forums where they discuss it - he originally posted a video with no food around and everyone thought they were begging for food, so he remade it to this one.

That is too cool!!!!! I want a tegu now. There was a little baby one at my lps that got very lively as soon as I walked by his tank. He started clawing at the glass and trying to get to me out of interest.

They're definately a cool animal, if you live in an area that gets nice during the spring and summer and can afford to keep a fairly large enclosure inside the house when they're brumating in the winter you could essentially keep one in a kennel outdoors for the majority of the year.

One thing to watch out for is cats, I know breeders out here who have lost multiple pairs to cats due to not setting up kennels for outdoor enclosure's.
