Tell me about sirens

The exact species is unknown; currently over a foot long, and my friend has three of them. One is, unfortunately, the target of much bullying and is missing part of a front leg. Friend wants to give me the siren; that said, I don't have any open tanks right now, save for a 33 gallon Rubbermaid container. Would this, sponge-filtered powered with duckweed, be all right for temporary housing?

Yes, it will be fine. Frequent water changes seem to promote faster healing. Nightcrawlers are a good staple diet. If it's a greater siren it will eventually outgrow the tub, but a lesser should be fine in there indefinitely.
