Have you tested your water?
Yes
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes

About three weeks ago i noticed one of my Tems eyes was protruding more than normal. So I monitored it over the next week at which point I realized it was not improving and was getting worse. So i moved the fish to a 75 gallon qt tank and have run one full treatment of Kanaplex, and Maracyn over the past two weeks.

Kanaplex Treatment Results: Over the first few days of treatment i noticed the soft tissue around the eye had begun to recede, I thought it was working, however on the third day it had gotten worse again with the trend continuing into the final day of treatment.

Maracyn Treatment Results: After the Kanaplex treatment i did a series of water changes to remove the medication in the water. I then proceeded to treat with Maracyn with no improvement noted over the five days of treatment. In fact the infection has gotten worse.

Display Tank 1100g sys Parameters (Fish came from this tank three weeks ago)
10% daily water changes
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:5
PH: 7.2

Qt Tank 75g w/FX5 (Fish has been in this tank from two weeks ago to present)
Water changes occur as need based on medication instructions.
Ammonia: 0.25 - 0.50, I have been dosing with seachem prime to ensure the ammonia stays in a nontoxic state
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:10
PH: 7.0

Conclusions: Since I have now treated with a gram negitive and postive medicaitons im not sure where to go from here. I will say the Kanaplex did seem to have some small effect. Additionaly, the fish seems to be in good health aside from the eye. It is eating well, and breathing normally.

What other medications would you all recommend? It would be a shame to lose this fish as it is otherwise fairly healthy.81E8D375-5974-4D4A-BD0F-A5933951A3E1.jpeg

I’d suggest trying to dose Epsom salt 1 tbsp per 5g. I’d hold off on abx. Don’t think more meds will help. Let the Epsom salt work for several days and reassess.

The Epsom salt hasn't done anything. Any suggestions?
I’d keep the Epsom salt for now. I’d try triple sulfa. After that I’d wait it out and see where the dust settles. As long as it’s not worsening then I’d try not to add more meds. Is it eating?

The dosage of Kanaplex is 17 times lower than what's recommended in veterinary texts. People don't seem to have a lot of success with it.

Coincidence?

Still eating fine.

Is that the oral or diluted dosage? Any documentation on that?
