where my cichla are
ok.. so these guys are getting HUGE, i don't think they are more than 18 months old and my best eyeball guess is that they are well over 12" maybe coming up on 18". (but you know you should never take a woman's guess as to length.. )

last week they ate my $100 pike (well one of them did). my strategy to keep the tank over fed for a few weeks till they got used to his company apparently didn't work. i woke up one morning to a tem with a HUGE belly.

now, a week later, i was feeding them and BOTH of the tems are in full spawning colors. i haven't seen any spawning behavior yet, and was totally surprised to see this.

my camera is doing strange things, all of my pics turn out blue and for some reason it won't download the pics onto the computer. so this is merely a discussion, there will be no pics. Black Friday is only a couple weeks away.. hehehe.

Awsome !!! interested to see if they are mature enough for spawning ..What trouble they just ate a hundred bucks worth of food:ROFL:sorry had to throw that in...

yep.. fish food just keeps getting more and more expensive with these guys..

I like tems too but they eat too much and grow like weeds. You can't really keep anything with them especially if they are in spawning mode. Get a some slate for them if they are in deed spawning and hopefully you can recover your losses my selling the fry.

slates wont work to slick n eggs wont able to attach..u need a rock with ruff surface..i found some nice pieces perfect at home depot for 7-8 bucks..

probably the day after Black Friday, i'll take pics of the tank they are in and you'll see why i'm not adding anything to it for them to lay eggs on. most of the bottom of the tank is covered in rocks and driftwood making caves and hiding places. the peacock bass like it better this way, and it gives Clyde, the CK a place that he can pretend to hide (he doesn't fit, he's too big, but don't tell him that).

right now i'm making a plexiglass cover for the tank to keep some of the warm in. Winter is hell on my electricity bills. I'm also adding another canister filter and after that is finished i'm going to add 3 more peacock bass and the 2 w/c silver arowana to the tank.

i know it's a lot for the 210, but it's temporary, i need to move tanks around and no matter how hard ya try, full tanks don't move.

ok.. the good for nothing snot did it again.. this time he ate my small snook. i knew it was coming, he'd been chasing and bullying her for awhile.. and she had some narrow misses. but my only option would have been to put her in with the "little" orinos and their tank is already overcrowded..

if he keeps this up he's going to make enough room in his tank for the ocel/mono hybrids and my big orino to join the party in the 210..
