Ok I know most of you guys clicked this thread because, "Temensis vs Monoculus..." sounds like some sort of cichla fight club... lol

But I have some mono's at around 4"-5" and I have tems at around 1.5". I want the tems to catch up with the mono's so they can share the same tank.

I've been power feeding the mono's, 3 feedings a day including fresh food, live and lots of massivore.

I want the tems to catch up so planning to cut back on the massivore for the mono's. A friend mentioned to me that the growth rate for tems is faster, is this true?

Has anyone grown monos and tems both from juves?

I'd be greatful for any info from you more experienced cichla guys

tems grow .5-1" faster a month or so. well, i've never had mono's but...

should at least catch up enough to go together in a couple months I would think

man your tems will catch up no problems! Just half the food that you give the monos and powerfeed the tem, most importantly do frequent small water changes, then you'll see a lot of growth..

If you feed the tems hikari you might get 2" a month growth. They should catch up quickly. Feed the mono's just once a day and you should be all good.

I would feed your tems 4 times a day minimum. Feed eachone till they bellies buldge four times daily and they will shoot up in no time. You'll notice if you feed em at 8am then by 12pm they will be skinny again. When they are small they burn through energy.

i fed my tems only once or twice a day since they were only an inch.
from september to now, they have gotten to 8 inches.
possibly larger.
they DO grow faster than many pbass species.
just powerfeed the temensis and cut back on feeding the monos.
heres a pic from september 1",november 3",now 8".

i would imagine that they wont have problems catching up

thanks everyone for the useful info. great news! i'll keep you guys posted on how they come on.
