I recently unplugged all the heaters now that summer is here. With the lower water temp the bass darken up and some other colors started to show. Mainly blue.
Interestingly, their desire to feed remains unchanged.
Anyone else got the same experience?

Yes I've seen the color change but it usually comes with the mood aswell. I don't use a heater with my big bass aslong as the tank temp don't go under 70. They remain just as active and hungry as they do at higher temps.

well my tank says at a low 80's with no heaters in my tank. But as of color, my bass are darker because of lower temps. lower temp cause them to be darker or black, because the blood doesn't flow as fast as higher temps do. so high temp=more color and cooler temps= darker! at least I thinks that's what ur question was?:D

IMO substrate affects color most. I keep my cichla tanks at a steady 80. I also heard that high temperatures cause the fish to be more aggressive.

You may be right about mood because they appear to be in spawning mode. Great tip on the heater. I'll not heat it anymore.

I'll go with what you said. Thanks.

I'm not too sure about the gravel theory. I do notice the aggression with higher temps.

ya I think higher temp does cause more aggression, I have noticed it to
Confirmed.

I do agree higher temps, make them more aggressive and makes them a lot more hungry as well. I think higher temps will boost their metabolism.
Right now my tank says the temp is 88 but I'm saying its more around 85-86. And that's with one heater on and in the beginning of a South Florida summer.
In conclusion hotter temps bring hotter temperaments lol

I'll get some pics of the Xingu for you to see Ken, they're constantly swimming next to each other and looking like they're running through some pre spawning routines.

Fingers crossed...

Okay, it's been a few weeks now with no heaters. All have darkened up except for the two runts.
One is stripeless and the other is yellow. Strange.

Stripeless behind the yellow oddball
