I need some advice on housing my 2 pacus...

I bought two pacus about 3 or 4 weeks ago from the local pet store. They were about 2-3 inches when I bought them, and they've since grown an inch! I have them housed in a 30gallon tank with 3 convicts, 1 green terror, and a pleco.

Right now two of the convicts are spawning, and I'm interested in keeping most of the fry to get them up to a decent size and use a few as food and sell the rest (for what little they're worth). My pacus eat anything I throw in there, and I would like to keep them away from the fry. Further the convict pair are aggressive, predictably, and have taken to biting the pacus.

I've ordered a 55 gallon tank that I will use to house the pacus later (yes, I know they will be too large for a 55 gallon tank), but for the time being I have a 10 gallon tank setup. Would it work to put the pacus in there for the next 2-3 weeks by themselves?

You are crazy.....take the pacus back they will out grow a 55 in a month or so and jammin 2 4 inch fish in a 10 gallon for a couple weeks will not do the anygood prolly would stunt their growth if they aare already not stunted my best advice would be to take them back or sell them...these fish get over 30 inches!

I know that they get huge, that's why I specifically said in my first post that I know a 55 gallon tank is too small in the long run. I have a much larger "third tank" per se; one of those inflatable pools I have setup in my basement (~400 gallons give or take). Right now they are way too small for me to feel comfortable putting them in there and further the "pool" (indoor pond) is cycling, so they would probably died from the stress, etc.

My question is if it is alright to put them in a 10 gallon for 2 - 4 weeks while my 55 gallon is setup and cycles...

No---take the fish back or go to the hardware store and buy a pond of atleast a few hundred gallons and start that cycling.

Yep I agree...Pacus get very large and will literally bust out of a 55g within a few months. A 10g is not suitable for such predatory fish even for a few weeks. They need lost of swimming room as they are very active swimmers. You would likely end up with one on the floor fro it jumping out of the 10g. Please take them back...if you want something for the 55g get silver dollars...same family and stay much much smaller and just as fun to watch.

I say keep them. I also know they get big but Dissent still has a few more months to setup his pool. And the pacus growth slows down some after 15 some inches, hopefully they be in the pool by then, and that shouuld give dissent sometime for a really monster tank :D -just my thought-
