How susceptable are gar to temp shock? They appear to not really be affected by it but.....

Well I wouldn't go tossing them in a bucket of icewater.... or boiling water.... Why? What did you do?

Ha ha ha ha. why do u think i did something?

depends on the magnitude and speed of the temp difference...from a base of 70F, they can go nearly 20F in either direction with enough time to acclimate, but if it's immediately you are going to get into trouble.

so unless we know the specifics of what you are talking about (i.e. conner asking "what did you do?") then it's hard to make a blanket statement here...--

sigh....

ok i realised from my WC, that my water temp drops. try from about 78 or so to 60..... lol. i turn my hose on a very very slow fill and it usually takes an hour or so. lol.

the water from my hose comes out at nearly 56 degrees. if i remember that correctly that is. Gar seem to handle it fine but from my previous fish exp it seems that would be bad but the gar dont mind at all. I usually w8 about 5 hours after a WC then feed. they devour the food very well.

That's a pretty big temp swing, even over an hour. But I guess if they seem to be handling it well... You could fill from the hose into a large bucket/tupperware container, let the water run with a powerhead and heater, and then add with a powerhead once the water is a little closer to the tank temp.
