85-90 is to hot to be keeping your peacock bass 78-84 is a much better range for keeping them and also a better range for keeping other south american cichlids and catfish. I would suggest live feeders only at first until around 6-8" and you can convert them to pellets, market shrimp, krill, etc. If you keep feeding live food your pbass will break your wallet eventually. I feed about half and half still and need to convert them off of live food because my 3 pbass ranging from 10-12" go through about 200 goldfish a week which ls about $25. Hope that helps ~Trent
86*f and live feeders(not goldfish) are best or if you want to go non-live then krill or market shrimp.
Temperature is vital when pbass are young! must be in the high range or you will have problems and growth will be slower. Their natural habitat in the wild is the shoreline shallows amungst weeds and plants where the temp can reach over 90*F and the warmer water leads to higher metabolism and faster growth. 84-86f is prime....you can go higher and you can go lower but keep in mind when going higher the oxygen levels tend to drop so add aeration to the tank....if you go lower..watch out for strange behavior and ICH.. as it is a pbass killer....and if you venture into the 70s watch for dead fish as pbass are not your "run of the mill cichlid" and DO require very warm temps to thrive.
Both my pbass tanks are a 82 degrees i am feeding bloodworms to my baby 2 times a day and my big one i give frozen silver sides twice a day. When the baby gets bigger I will give him Frozen silver sides. Is this good for optimal growth. I want to stay away from live food because of parasites is this a good feeding rutine and how fast will they grow if i use this plan?
