DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING TEMPERATURE AFFECTING SEX OF SPAWN?

ANY INFO WOULD BE VERY HELPFULL

My piranhas usually breed after a cool, 50% water change....It makes them feel the rainy season has started....I beef up the temp to 82, maybe 84...This usually adds to the "mood...."They darken up to a almost a pitch black, which is a 75% sure sign that breeding is about to happen...

It is simpler with adult goldfish....Get a male and a female....You all know these fish live in cold water....BUT...If you raise the temp to, say 70-80...Usually the males will get into the mood...They form white spots on the gill covers, whick is a sure sign of being "horny..."Just make sure you have a mature female that is well plump with eggs...The male will chase the female around and around...During this tag game, both will release egg(female) and then sperm(male)....

I think colaPb meant how different temperatures determine sex of fry. I'm sorry That I do not know a definitive answer, although When alligators lay their eggs the temperature in the egg mound differs top to bottom, side to side and what part the sun is shining on. researchers have concluded that temp does affect the sex of alligator offspring, so why not fish?

it probably is dependent on the species and a lot of other factors. a google search found some information but even better would be to go to a college and search their libraries for peer-reviewed atricles and reports.

Yes, you can "control" the sex of fry based on the water temp. of some species.
