So a few days ago I posted that my orino was terrorizing the rest of my cichla and I was tempted to sell/separate him. He was actually doing physical harm to my kelberi and azuls :irked: Anyways, the orino was moved to that tank two days prior and I thought the aggression was just cuz he was now fully acclimated and comfortable with his surroundings. The same day I moved him I turned my heaters down from 84* to 82*. After a failed attempt to catch the orino I thought that the temperature change might have triggered the aggression so I bumped the temp back up and now everyone is happy :) There's still gill flaring and light playing but no more fin or body damage.

coincidence or is there some reasoning behind it? I was wondering if the temp drop triggered "breeding" behavior and increased aggression. not saying my guys are exhibiting "breeding" behavior per se. I know they're too young to be breeding. Just wondering if the temperature is linked to the aggression

IMO, the 2 degree temp. change wouldn't have much if any affect on aggression.

You may have "put him in his place" so to speak after trying to catch him. Trying to catch a fish will definitely change his behavior short-term. He will probably become his old dominant self again.

Very true! It's been a few days since I tried to catch him. Hopefully he doesn't go back to his old ways because i'd have to separate/sell him if it did.

yep, fluke. EVERYONE is aggressive now. I had to remove my runt kelberis because they were getting dominated.....

Orinos are real bullies when they are young. I had issues with mine for several months. Constant bullying and herding all the fish into one corner. Adding a larger fish that wouldnt tolerate the aggression helped.

funny thing is, the orino wasn't the only one dishin out the pain. My biggest kelberi was make scales fly too. Hammered my smaller kelberi into the wall of tank :( I thought that my 11.5" temensis would maintain order but at 9" the orino is still the king....
