As title states, do you believe different temperatures affect growth?

Interesting read. So in terms of central & south american cichlids, what is the consensus? I keep my tanks at 26-27°, but it can sometimes be slightly higher.

Also I've heard goldfish grow faster in warm water, so just wondered about cichlids.

I'm not sure if it actually does, I've heard mixed reviews but i thought why not bump the temperature up so i keep my water at 28 Celsius or 82 Fahrenheit. I will definitely keep up to date with this thread as I try to speed up the growth of my green terror juvies

Warmer water will speed up the growth of CA cichlids, provided the nutrition is adequate. Water quality is paramount.

I keep my sa's at 86*f. If I go lower, to even 84* my L18 goes under driftwood and won't be seen from. As a result, I have heckelli that are around the 6" mark at 1yr. I was previously told they were slow growers, given they supposedly top at 8" , occasionally reaching 10".

My daughter has 3 juvi gt in her 75g. I need to take 1 out since a pair had formed there. I'll put him in my main tank and see what the growth differences are like.

Seems like there is ample science behind the increased temp theory however. I'm on my phone and can't link back to any articles atm as it is a ***** to do so .

I've read that warmer water makes disease more likely, too. So I just keep my water at 79 degrees. But, if I had some definitive info, I'd definitely bump the heater on my grow out tank.

Right now, all I do to speed growth is twice a week water changes, and they still grow slow.

Honestly i think genetics & clean water have the most to do with growth rate.

I would research their natural environment then mimic that as much as possible. 78-80F is a good all around temp for most just make sure you have plenty of aeration from discharge hoses etc. I wouldn't sweat trying to increase growth rate. Just put them in a good environment then feed sparingly then let them do their thing.

It's pretty simple guys. With fish (excluding some tuna and related species) the warmer the environment the faster the metabolism, as their metabolism is linked to environmental temperature.

Under identical conditions with the only variable being water temperature the warmer water will have faster growing fish.

Of course it does! warmer water= faster metabolism= digests food faster= hungrier faster= grows faster.
Think of mealworms in refrigerators, they dont grow because of the cold temperature, but once you take them out they become beetles fast.
