Hey there (=

I have a small problem in my piranha tank

I can't keep the water temperature constant!
It's always between 77-86 F, but at most it's at 77-80 F
The heater is on 84 F

But does it even matter what room tempereture is? I mean if the heater is suppose to keep the water 84 F, then the room tempereture shouldn't affect the water in the tank?
 
Those are very large fluctuations!

Are you sure the heater is even working properly?

As Jc said, we need to know the size of your tank and what wattage heater you have (how many heaters you have in the tank).
 
It's a 34 gallon tank
It's an inside filter with 150 watts

And yes the filter is working, because i hold it in my hand.

150watt should be fine for a 34gal in normal room temp.

Just because the heater heats up does not mean the heater's built in thermostat is working properly. I'm certain that your heater is not working properly.

I have one 250watt heater in my 75gal tank, and it never fluctuates more than 1 degree F, and at this time of the year my house temp fluctuates between 68F-75F
 
I had a jager 250 go out of wack. Turned on and heated the tank. But to whatever temp whenever it wanted. I was told some heats go out of calibration and do this.

Just one guestion:
Let's say the room tempereture is around normal, and i set my heater to 84 F, Then the water shouldn't be able to be warmer than 84 F Right?
And if the room tempereture is very cold, then the tank should go less than 84 F right ?

A properly working thermostat will turn on when the water temp drops below the set temp until it reaches the set temp. Of course, it doesn't stay on the whole time, while it is trying to reach the set temp, but intermittently. The heater will not turn on again until the tank's temp drops below the set temp. You also need to check the thermometer in the tank because the 84 on the heater doesn't always mean 84 for the water.

Basically, once you find the desired temp, you shouldn't have to adjust the heater ever again. I haven't adjusted the heater in my 75gal since I first put it in 18 months ago. Just remember to unplug the heater when you are doing water changes
