I am new to cichlids so bear with me because I feel I'm getting contadictory advice...
I have 1 Frontosa, a few Labidochromis, Auroras and several other Cichlid species in my 55 gallon.
What is a good temperature to keep the tank at? One "professional" said to keep the tank at 73-74 but everything I'm reading is saying a highter temp in the 78-80 degree range.
Thanks!

I would go with about 78-82. Cichlids love warmer water. I've always had them in this range. I'm sure they'd be fine if it was cooler too though.

Yah I keep mine in the 78-80 degree range, my seem to like it. Also with your Frontosa it will get to big for that tank just to give you heads up..

I keep my african tanks a 82 degrees.

Be careful who you have the fronts mixed in with...they are the more timid of the africans and tend to get picked on ( shreded fins)
And they grow slow - so you have time before another tank is needed

Welcome to MFK. :welcome: I hope you have an enjoyable experience here at MFK. Great site to be a part of and if you are wanting any information on Malawi's don't hesitate to ask ASH. Great gal. :D
I agree with all saying the higher temp. Here in South Africa we work in degrees celsius and I run my tanks at 27-28C. I would not go anything above 30C as I have read that over 32C you stand a chance of killing off your fish.
:naughty: :woot: :clap :clap :headbang2

i have kept africans for quite some time i say around 80 degres is best it can go a little warmer but keep in mind that if you get ich somehow you will want to raise the temp a little bit to speed the cycle up
also the warmer you keep the tank the more they will eat therefore the faster they will grow and the more they will poop and urinate so you will have to change the water more often there are pros and cons that is why i say 80 is best
