can any one tell me at what temperature a gator gar should be keeped at
thanks

Danny, just in case you were thinking of adding him to your existing tropical tank, gator gars can tolerate higher normal tropical fish tank temps too.

thanks ospy i will now put him in my 7*2*2 to grow him on witch should give me time to sort out his new pound. btw whats the lowest temp he will be happy in:)

Polypterus, I love you man, but I think that they can live for prolonged periods in colder than that. I'd say 50F.

if gator gars can tolerate lower temps then that, then i might build a pond with no heating for just the purpose of growing one out. didnt kno they can tolerate low low temps like that.

This depends.. are we talking about a three foot fish in a pond? or a YOY (young of year) in a tank?

If it is a YOY in a tank then I would not keep it at 50. I'm assuming that a fish in a 7x2x2 tank would be a juvenile fish. In this case do not keep it lower than 60 for prolonged periods and as stated it is best around 70 / 75 for maximum growth and health. A larger sub adult or adult could very well be kept at a lower temp around 50 (or below) but I would be cautious about this for prolonged periods of time. Temps lower than 50 should be an exception not a rule.

thanks every one. he is a juvenile and about 12inc i plan on puting him in a pound and would like to keep heating bills to a minimum but not at the cost of his comfort
does any one know of any product for insulating the walls and floor of a pound. i may also put a greenhouse over it ,,,,does this sound like a good idea???
