Here's my conundrum:

I was planning on building a plywood 180g tank 72" x 24" x 24" for my Brown Knife, Sen Bichir and Ompock catfish. I found and bought a 140g 60" x 18" x 30" tank off CL and after cleaning the sludge out of it, saw the sticker that said it's made out of tempered glass. Does drilling the tank make a big enough difference for me to clean this tank up, sell it, and put the money towards the 180g build, or do you guys think this is a good size tank for when my Knife is full grown and I should just go with HOB overflows since I can't drill this tank? Or am I just completely off in thinking a tempered glass tank can't be drilled?

This probably goes without saying, but since I got the tank for 100 bucks (it came with a stand but I'm going to build my own for it to accommodate sumps,) keeping this tank and using it would come out costing me a lot less than trying to build the 180g.

Thanks,

Kash

You cannot drill a tempered glass tank!

From what can gather, I think only the bottom is tempered glass. So I'm thinking about drilling it at some point and finding out!

That is risky unless you are 110% sure the sides are not tempered.

Good luck your probably going to ruin your tank then not have any money to put toward your180 build rendering you broke and your fish out of a bigger home which in return will force you to give him to a lfs which in return let a fat chubby kid in a white starwars outfit with cheetto stains buy him for his 20g

Adamrhh, that's pretty specific on what's going to happen to the poor fish! lmao

But you do have a point, although I'll be able to get a replacement glass piece just for the back for about 100 bucks if it does break. Might be a better idea to first call the glass companies around here and see if any of them have a way to test and see if it's tempered or not without actually breaking it.
