I have a yung dovii that is about 2" right now. The temp. on the tank has always been around 79*-81*. After feeling the water and how cold it feels, i put another thermometer out of another tank and it is 72*-73*. The i used a meat thermometer and it has 75*-76*. What am i to do? the water dose feel cool, and the dovii seems to be doing good and eating good. What would be a good thermometer thats not to costly? im usinging Temp. Alert right now, but it is not right im afraid. thanks

I have 10$ corallife digital and I have 2$ regular glass ones both work well and are acrurate in my tanks

Same here.

It's worth investing in a good digital probe thermometer and then using a couple of glass ones as backups.

i actually never even turn the digital on i just look at the glass ones anymore

on all my tanks i have a 23$ digital, and a 3$ stick on. works great for me.

you could have cold and hot spots depending on where your heater is that is what it sounds to me i usually use 2 heaters on either side of the tank close to the filter so the heat is circulated

Meat thermometers are a goofy thing to use in a fishtank. I just use a glass therm. And 70-90 degrees always feels a little cool with liquid.

Trust me, I used to make cheese, and the milk and curds would have to be heated to 88* F.

I'd go by your fishtank thermometer, that what it's made for, a meat thermometer is made for meat, and the metal retains heat and cold a little easier than most therms.

ok, thanks for the replyes. I am using 2 300 watt heaters next to the intakes on 3 of my filters. I also have a powerhead that is next to them. The thermometer is a $30 digital alert . I even changed the battery in it. It is placed with the cord in the middle of the tank(6'). The water felt rather cold, so i took the thermometer out my marine tank(a $10 coralife)and put it in the same area and it is a lot lower. Down to 72. Right now, the digital alert is at 83.0 and the coralife digital is at 76.5. Im going tomorrow to get a glass thermometer and use it too, well untill my wolfy trys to eat it.
How would i check how accurate the thermometers or? thanks

could i use a thermometer like the one u use to check your body temp? to see what one is closest

I would go get the 2 dollar glass one and check. Not to fancy but I have never heard anyone complain.
