I've been keeping cichlids for a few years, but have never ventured into pikes. One of our club sponsors has some nice ones that really have me tempted, but I have a couple of questions/concerns.

The fish he has are Tapajos reds (outrageously good price), and he's going to send me some pics tonight. He had a group of 6, I hesitated, and he sold 4...so he only has 2 left. Odds for a pair don't thrill me, but...

Also, believe it or not, I am struggling to find tank space. I am working to set up a new fishroom, but that is under construction, so if I got these, I would need to stash them somewhere temporarily. He says that they are currently 6-8". What size tank could I keep them in short term...and what would I need to plan for, long-term? I DO have a 180 that's up and running, and it has all of these feeder fish already in it (about 50 or 60 mbuna)...and I'm really considering converting that, but haven't made that commitment yet.

Finally, I know that the reasonable thing to do would be walk away, and look again when I have the fishroom ready. Addiction...errr, obsession with the hobby makes that a tough thing to do. Any guidance/advice will be greatly appreciated!

As a follow-up, I understand that getting only 2 might not be the best thing from an aggression standpoint. Any recommendations there? Since I'm not locked into purchasing yet, I'm flexible, if it would be an undesirable situation.

might be able to get away with a 55g temporarily. welcome to mfk. maybe its better to hold off, but i don't like being told that either

Oh, and I forgot that the bathtub is currently available. Well, almost: I have a 34-gallon tub full of juvenile Honduran Red Points growing out in there. The bathtub itself is probably over 75 gallons. :grinyes:

55 would probably work for a while but I'd have a tank divider on hand in case of aggression. I don't know how large that species will grow but I don't think you could go wrong giving them the 180. you might even be able to keep something else in there with them.
