Temporary tank for young Ornate

I'm planning on growing out a baby ornate in a small tank until it's big enough to house with my adolescent bichirs.
I currently have an extra ten gallon tank and a 50 gallon filter. Is there any way the tank and filter could work together, or do I have to get a smaller filter for the tank?
Also, in your experience, how fast do ornates grow?

That should be fine and the filter is even better. Ornates when they are small grow relatively fast so depending on how big your other polys are it could go in with them in a month or maybe even sooner at the earliest.
