Stopped by a LFS yesterday (need new impeller for my filter) and I was teased by ....

Baby Demasonis.

I tried with 'em when I first set up my larger tank, but I didn't RTFM re: bloat and protien in the diet, so that failed.

But, they have them... so maybe I can find a good flake for 'em that isn't 45% protien like the rest I've found where I buy fish food (lfs is too far a drive, I was in town anyway)

I had a Desmoni once. It was a disaster. They are the nastiest Mbuna out there. I had one in a 180 gallon. It took me awhile to figure out that he was the one killing a lot of fish in there. At first, I just found the occasional dead Mbuna with wounds.. One day, I came home from work, and there were 8 dead fish.. the guy would kill Red Zebras, Johanni, and Kenyi that were 4 times his size.. They are nasty little buggers and I'd recommend keeping them in a tank by themselves if you do get them..

Wow, they're that nasty?? I never knew. It seems that everyone here is selling and buying them. Seems to be the new in thing.

They look great, but yeah they'll kill ANYTHING they want to. When I worked at my LFS they would rip anything to pieces, it cause a lot of problems with the stock at the store.

i have quite a few in my community 180 gallon tank. and they do fine. i have found that the nastiest bugger i have ever had was a male Kenyi. he beat up everyone-even my big male venustus. He later had a come to Jesus meeting with the porcelain god. lol

Just goes to show that it's not necessarily the species, but the individual personality of the fish. Fish are people too you know...:D

Demasoni usually do better in large groups.12-18 with most of them female,at least 3 males.
They do better if the alpha male demasoni isnt the alpha male in the tank.My trewavase is the king of that tank.
Yellow labs. They are more active and less territorial than most mbuna, they keep things mixed up and diffuse some of the demasonis aggression.

I love it when people see my 125g mbuna tank and insist its a saltwater tank, freshwater fish just arent that colorful lol
:screwy: like they know better than me whats in my tank.:grinno:
