Has anyone successfully grew this fish to over 12" in pure freshwater? I have seen them on the market a few times in the past year and have not yet heard or seen anyone that has grown them out over 12" their predatory behavior seems that they can be fast growers, they go bananas when feeders are released into the tank, just as bad as Dorados and Cichlas.

What are your experiences with these fish?

I am thinking about picking up 3 from my lfs and trying to grow them out to be introduced into some larger predator fish...The only problem is they must be able to atain 3"- 12" in a year. If this species is not capable then I will probably not look into getting them any further.

Thanks,
Ruckus

they are big eater, but they seems to grow to about 5" and stop there, don't grow any bigger once that size.

Regards

Ruckus, never heard of these 'til you brought them up... After doing a search on them, "They my kind of fish!!" :grinyes: Let me know how they go for you and GL! Just might have to have you ship me one of these as well?!! :D

They are very neat little fish but they are very very bad about scale and fin nipping, at least when they are little. They also fight a lot amongst themselves.

i thot target fish are salt water converts?
sold by gold ocean rite????

think these fish will not grow that optimally in pure freshwater conditions though
