I have a 55 gallon aquarium with
1x senegal bichir
1x Convict
1X Firemouth
1x GT

and I have 1 Aquaclear 50 and WHisper 60

Could I add a group of 3-8 Buenos Aries tetras, I dont think they would be bothered too much since they get to a descent size and the school with one another. I want to add them now when all the fish are smaller, I think the only problem might be aggression a couple of momths down the road, but what do you think? should I add them to the tank??
If any aditional information on the setup or inhabitants is needed just lemme know but anyways will be able to add the tetras and if so how many

Thanks

I had a school of about 6 BA tetras in with my CA/SA ciclids that are all labeled "peaceful." Any time I would skip one of their daily feedings, a tetra would disappear. All I would find the next morning would be a thoroughly cleaned head. It's been about 6 months and the school is all gone.

I'm planning on getting 6 more as they certainly help keep the tank active and it also helps redirect any aggression from any of the ciclids to the tetras. It also helps that the tetras are only $2 each.

The bichir, GT, and convict may all consider them feeders and I would expect them to be gone relatively quickly. You'd be better off trying to get a school of feeders going and save yourself some money.

I think they would not be concidered feeders for awhile since at the LFS they are the same size as all my fish but the bichir

I had my tetra's for about a year and they maxed out at 2 inches. All of my ciclids were over 2" when I bought them, and all grew to 3.5" within weeks.

It won't be long before the tetras will be noticably smaller.

I have read on many sites that they max out at 3-5 inches wich is not alot smaller than the Cons and FM

The firemouths and convicts are not an issue. Your bichir and GT however are so no is the answer. I believe 3-3.5 inches is about the maximum size for Buenos Aires tetras.

If you want some schooling dithers, try Giant Danios or Silver Dollars. Both will add some excitement and movement to the tank. They will also get to a reasonable size, so they won't be a snack to your fish.

Yea that sounds right I ment to put 3.5 not 5 inches in the previous post, ops

I have a school of them in with some bichirs. They are cheap if they ever get eaten to replace and look great. They have done well for the 3 months that I have had them, only 1 got eaten and it was the smallest.

Maby the danios but Silver Dollars will out grow my tank wont they

Any other Ideas for dithers will work??

Thanks

I think I am going to go today and look at the size of the tetras they are usually 2"+ and my con is 1.5", JD is 2", Fm is 3" and bichir is 4"
