I though I read a thread/posting one time about someone that used or had one of them Terminator UV Sterilizers.

Has anyone have any experience with them?

They even sell a 15w custom unit. Im thinking about buying the custom or 35w uv terminator. For my current 124g tank and soon my 300g tank. Any opinions on them?

Ive read that corallife turbo twists, break or leak. I dont like the idea of paying double for the Emporer (aka marineland) name. and im just not sure of aqua-ultra violet. I worked for them in CA when they first got real popular. And I just dont trust there "name". Hehehe cant recall if I signed any fancy paperwork. LOL so I will just say I dont really trust there "name". Any opinions please?

I bought one of them internal 24w green killing machine uv units on my 125g tank. Works great. But not sure for how long. But will make a great sick tank portable thingey.

Thanks for the reply. Great! Ill read it now. If I recall reight. Level 1 was for water cleaning and algae control. I think algae has its own bennifits and lifespan if ppl take care of there fiah and tanks. Although I have never delt with green water (algae bloom) . One of them internal Green killing machine's can take care of that after 5-10 days. My goal is helping to reduce and limit diseases. Granted ick is almost like cancer. But there is free floating ick that I would love to kill. And other bugs id want the uv to help with.

I think ppl that get uv sterilizers for just cleaning water are either real lazy. Or can spend there money on better and larger mechanical filtration. Or water changes help also. My friend has a 200+ gallon aquarium with sand and lots of fish and with his sump and a fluval fx5 canister. His tank gets as clear as I think water can get. And he still says he needs a bigger pump for his sump

I want a uv to help my fish stay healthy, strong, and live long. Right now im growing baby festae's and soon start growing and breeding trimacs. There health is my focus. Not algae on the glass.

Thanks again for the reply. Ill read your review right after dinner my wife told me. LOL

Level 1 is the lowest level of sterilization but higher by a good deal than just controlling algae blooms in the water column. Level 1 sterilization offers some bacteria killing and improves redox quality of the tank water which increases a fishes immunity and therefore their ability to resist disease and infection if they should get wounded. Also no UV cleans water really they just eliminate some bacteria and viruses at best, none are good at removing ammonia, nitrite or nitrate so a standard filter is always necessary. As for those Green Killing Machines because of their fast flow rate small bulbs and low wattage combination usually they're only good for algae control with the exception of the higher wattage units. I personally wouldn't recommend any Green Killing Machine under the 24 watt unit.

I personally think that UV's have amazing capabilities and in the near future will be considered standard aquarium hardware. UV's are being used in a lot of applications from cleaning water to air filters and probably have untapped potential. Presently the UV's in tanks are using UVC radiation usually in the 254-270nm range there maybe other wavelengths that might offer unknown benefits that maybe explored in the future.

I got the 24w green killing machine. It says the pump pumps 120gph and the water passing the light is going 75gph. I got it to test and see what it would do to my 125g tank after not changing the water for my 20 festae 1" fry gjys and 10 kribensis at 1". And in 2 days it made my tank real clear. Then I did my 50% water change... LOL I know its not the best. But figured for the price. I could use it in all my tanks real fast and easy.

As for your comment on the future if uv and types of future uses. Amways already uses them in there under sink water filters. Ive heard HVAC techs say they sell air units with uv systems in them. And I think for normal in home water use. You can add a uv tube to your whole home water lines. And this pass year I think ive seen portable home air purifiers with uv lights in them. But to ppl that say UV staralizers dont work. I guess all that work and engineering is just gimicks also. Hehehe

I read your reviews and not sure if you think the terminator units are any good. In one part. I think you said the Ballast was good. But in another section. I think you said there is too much of a gap from tge uv light to the water passing acriss tge light. Am I right in my understanding?

I only wrote the thread on MFK the other links the reviews where written by others. From what I read of the reviews though the author recommends the Terminators as one of the best UV's on the market for aquariums, that included a good gap between the UV and the wall of the unit as well as a very dependable ballast. The review actually states that most inline UV's are capable sterilizers the only problem with them was ballast life, durability and cost of replacement bulbs as most bulbs should be replaced yearly. The only problem with inline's is making sure they're hooked up to a pump that pumps the right amount of flow for the UV without going over it's maximum flow rate which would impede sterilization.

Other than that the major complaints in the review where for the intank uv's as the reviewer stated they flow too much gph in general to be effective sterilizers in combination with the wattage they're using and the bulbs are generally too small to provide adequate exposure. I personally think the 24watt should be sufficient for your tank and should provide level 1 sterilization so it's better than just an algae cleaner in my opinion.

I know about their uses in water and air purification I just meant that they're maybe other more advanced applications they might be suited for that have yet to be discovered.
