Alrighty, I am lost again with what you refer to as dithers. I am thinking they are more then just food fish, but more like space fillers that if they get eaten its no biggy? Can someone enlighten me on this? Thanks
Dither fish are a species added to an aquarium to gain a response from a primary species in the tank.
Open water swimming dithers are added to sooth other prey species by being natural alerters to danger and by providing comfort of numbers (shoaling). Dithers are also added to provide a slight competitive environment to spark/enhance the feeding instinct of hard to feed species.
I used dithers when I first got my rays. They were shy and just hid in the sand all the time. I added a school of 10 rainbow fish and with in about 15min they were out and about swimming.
