I have a broken piece of what I think is a terracotta pot that I would like to put in my tank, but the middle of it, in between the two red layers is grey. Is this normal? I tried scratching it off and I couldn't, but is this concrete or something that will ruin my water? Thanks.

Yeah that's what I was thinking lol

I have several that are like that in my cat and rams tanks and have not seen any problem using them.

That's interesting because I was talking to my brother and he was convinced it is concrete because the terracotta is cheap, how long have you had them in the tank? Doesn't concrete alter the PH?

It isn't concrete, it is just gray clay. It is cheaper and more plentiful than the red clay, and no one will buy an ugly gray pot. It is safe for your fish and will not alter the chemistry.

Thank you very much :)
