is it ok to use terracotta pots as ornaments in im fish tank??? im fed up with the garbage in my local fish shop and the prices. hardware store teccacotta pots are pennies.

anybody know???

many thanks

I use them all the time, they make great spawning caves for Cichlids. I get mine from the local garden center/DIY store. A quick rinse to get rid of the dust and they are fine.

I agree that they make very practical caves and hiding spots, I use terracotta pots quite often . . . I just buy plain pots at a garden center

two things:

1) by all means, DO wash them before using, they may have been sitting in the store for months, you don't know what might have gotten on them in that time

2) don't use any pots that are glazed or painted, there may be chemicals, etc. . . . just plain pots is the safest way to go

ive never seen terracotta pots in any of my stores and im fed up of the trash on offer. nothing big enough for my tanks. i bought a pirate ship off ebay for £50 its tiny. didnt even put it in my big tank. im gonna go crazy tomorrow. wait for some awesome terracotta madness!!!!!
