I have kept snakes and lizards in the past and still have the wood which is sold in the terrarium/reptile sections at stores. The wood is a lot denser than driftwood and I would like to know if I would be able to use this for aquariums? Would I need to boil, bake, or just soak the wood? Thanks in advance.

you probably have grape wood i had some from reptile setups and tryed it in an aquarium mine kept on devoloping a white film any hoo 19:1 bleach soulution soak for a few hours rinse well submerge in clean water change the water a few more times over a week or two ,don't forget that reptiles carry some nasty bacteria in their crap even with new wood or found wood u should clean the same way. FNH

I use this kind of wood for my tanks as it is cheaper and doesn't give a yellow coloration to water. Mines have a tendency to float, so they need a good soaking with rocks on them to keep them sunk. Never had any problem with them, except for algae which seems to really like this wood...but my pleco cleans it up when there is a good crust so everybody's happy :)

Stopped by store the other day to look at the tags that were on the wood and it is labeled as malaysian driftwood and okay for aquariums. I think that I am going to boil the wood and then let it soak for a few days before use. Thaks for the answers.
