Territory Battles

I just realized this - but I don't actually know:

Beside males, do females fight for territory as well?

Convicts is the fish in question, but I guess it can expand to all (CA) cichlids.

males and females. convicts can be mean lil buggers when they have paired off and especialy guarding there fry.

Coolk, what I thought. It's just that I just noticed a male convict of mine chasing a male convict of mine chasing a female chasing a female and thought 'wth'.

Hello; It seems to me that males frequently establish a territory to start and that when a pair forms then both sexes will defend a territory.

sometimes, if the female isnt comfy with the spot she will shoose another place to lay her eggs. females will also chase other females off when trying to establish a bond with the male. it works both ways when you have more than a pair in that tank.
