I recently set up a 20 gallon tall low-light planted tank for my axolotl. To add a little motion I added 9 black neon tetras. 2 disappeared right away (probably went too close to the axolotl) but the others are now eating and swimming around the top. This is my first experience with tetras, and I like them a lot.
I am planning on setting up another 20 gallon tall just for breeding tetras. Should I set up a separate 5-10 gallon for breeding pairs, or will sufficient java moss in the main tank be enough? Many pages I found on google say that the tetras need dim lighting, is this only for the actual time of breeding, or all the time? Should I try low light plants, or get a strong light with floating plants? Does java moss require a lot of light? Is peat moss filtration required for breeding certain species?
Lots of questions... Any advise would be appreciated.
