Ok i'm looking at jumping back into rays and setting up a 300-360 gallon pond for them.. (8x3x2 at top and a few inches shorter at the bottom, so bigger than 300 but smaller than 360)

The filter and pump i'm looking at are these:

Tetra Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filter BP1500

and
Tetra Pond Debris-Handling pump DHP3600 (3690gph)

I know it's alot for a pond a little over 300 gallons but does anyone have any reviews for these items ?? Or if you have a better option shoot that to me as well.. This is a budget setup, so i'm not looking for a thousand dollar bead filter, i'd love one just can't afford it.. :(

Thanks in advance.. :)

I have this same setup on my 1500gal goldfish pond. Both pieces have worked flawlessly for me. The pump is awesome. The UV lights don't last as long as I had hoped they would, but that's the only drawback i have. One thing to consider is the size of hose that you will need. I want to say that i'm using 1.5" ID hose, but i didn't like the tetra hose so i got some at Lowe's that is used for in home flex lines.
I have a feeling you are going to be flowing too much water for the size pond you are looking at which will keep the surface swirling and make it harder to view your rays at the bottom. This thing really moves a lot of water, and I've heard if you try to throttle it back with a ball valve that it can harm the pump if you try to slow it down too much.

Thanks for the info.. Glad to hear it's working good for you.. I don't think i'll get the UV one though, i've never ran one before and not sure i want one that's actually part of the filter.. I thought about the gph that pump puts out and only on a small pond, but them i looked at my 300 gal inside tank and i run that much on that tank but it's through 3 different filters not just one.. But i always over filter my stuff.

To be honest i'm mostly trying to save space, and also i've had crappy luck with wet/dry's and sumps.. I have a wet/dry on my 300 inside my house and have had issues since the beginning, and i also have 2 FX5's on my 300 also and never had 1 problem with them. I know everyone has their own opinion as far as canisters go and this seemed like the closest thing to a pressurized bead filter i could get on a budget.

I'm looking for a filter to do both..

Man that's a sweet setup, i wish i could afford that, i'd get one of those for sure.. But i'm more than likely gonna be stuck with the poor mans version..lol

The good thing about the system you are looking into is that you too will be able to backflush the unit, the main difference is that you will have a sending pump located in the pond. This can easily be hidden with rocks if you wish. Good luck.
