Ok so, I am tank sitting a 10g for a friend for the summer until his college classes start again. It has 4 cory cats and 2 german blue rams. Recently the female got really stressed and started looking like she had parasites or was malnourished (dont know why malnourished she gets hikari micro wafers, black worms and blood worms on a rotating basis) so I started treating with Praziquantel.
Two days into Prazi treatment male gets popeye (tested water, parameters are perfect) removed prazi with a 30% water change and activated carbon for 24 hrs plus then began treating with Tetracycling (brand: Mardel).
Two days into treatment male dies (havent had the guts to tell friend yet).
I decided to continue the five day course of treatment to see if it helps the female out, even with black worms on a daily basis along with the hikari micro wafers she is not looking any better.
Currently I am four days into the five day treatment and the tank has turned bright red . . . looks like someone dribbled blood in it.
So I have three questions:
1) Does Tetracycline normally turn water red? In my experience with it at the store I work at it turns water kind of green and bubbles at the top.
2) Is Tetracycline bad for German blue rams?
3) Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the female better?
I am open to all suggestions since I am pretty new at fish, although I do have an awesome mentor/instructor
Oh and here is a pic of what the tank looks like in its current red state . . . the wall behind is white even though it looks red.
Thanks to anyone who can help me (and my friends fish).
