Who here has had a Saba Puffer and what salinity (or fresh) did you keep it at and how long did you have it for??

Time to put some things to rest!

And that's exactly why I have started this thread, a whole lot of information out there, none it scientific based and quite possibly wrong.

So I am looking to get some feedback from people who have kept them, what salinity levels and how their fish behaved.

I currently have mine up to about 1.20 and am going to take him to full marine and hold him there for a while. I haven't seen a black or grey belly since about 1.15, on a species that numerious people claim that black bellies on this puffer are the norm. Well all those people could just be wrong and been keeping their fish at the wrong water parameters. It simply doesn't make sense when a black belly is a sign of distress on all puffers, except the saba. That plus the fish has not behaved as vibrantly as he is now, as compared to the lower salinities.

I know that oddball kept a group of them at 1.08 to 1.15 over a period of four years and kind of took my lead from him.

How can you be sure that is the species you have? Pic? We are just discovering there ate many sub-species of the GSP: http://www.**************.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22211

We'd love your input!

My input and output is here, I don't see any need to be anywhere else.

I am not sure that I have a Saba Puffer, but from all of the information that I came across, I am relatively confident that I do posess what has commonly become known as T. sabanisis. Although the existance or non existance of a seperate species of is open to debate by some taxonomists which goes well beyond my education and the scope of MFK.

Based upon behaviour and colouration, the fish in question seems to be thriving in full marine salinity.

Those are GSPs. Especially with the yellow heads. Are you really saying you're not interested in a thread that specifically addresses the genuine ID of your puffers on another site, where many of the top pufferkeepers in the world are gathered?
