Hi,

I've just bought some tetrapond aquasafe dechlorinator and just realised it says it contains formaldehyde. I always use pond stuff as it goes so much further, not used this one before though.

Now, formaldehyde is dangerous for scalefish fish, correct?

Is this stuff going to harm my rays (and other naked fish, cats, knifes etc.)? Or is the formaldehyde low enough concentration to be fine?

Graham

formaldehyde is a carcinogen (causes cancer), I know that formaldehyde changes chemical structure once absorbed into the blood stream (rather than inhaled) so that may be way it is sold in this product? I personally don't know for SURE (and neither do many studies) the effects on humans, or any other animals of formaldehyde after absorption into the circulatory system. If it were me, I wouldn't trust it in high doses or for prolonged periods of time (as your main dechlorinator) but that is just my .02

Thanks, I don't actually normally dechlorinate as I always run out (controversial i know... :), but I've been doing lots of big water changes (as had a ray refusing to eat, unfortunately it died tonight) so got a nice big pack for 20k litres, but didn't check read it before buying.

I'll just have to use it on less delicate species.

ive used it in a pinch.... i try to only stick with prime or ultimate
