I am considering adding tetras of some kind to my winemilleri/tapajos setup.

What tetras or barbs and such complement geos? I've considered things like Roseline sharks and lemon tetras or bleeding hearts or such...my only concern is I'm hoping to possibly spawn the geos at some point, are these fishes a risk?

What's you guys opinion and experience?

Those should all be fine. Most tetras are top dwelling fish and geos are bottom dwelling. I have buenes aires tetras in with my topajos, no problems whatsoever.

Could be ok, as both of your Geo's species are good sized and more boisterous than some others; although I did loose a batch of Acara fry to a group of long fin blushing Tetra's, so nothing is for sure...

BTW: Digging the fish in your Avatar, is it yours and if so, what is it?

B. A . tetras do well with my south american cichlids , that include a brasiliensis

Lemons come from the same river as the tapajos, as do kitty tetras. Tetras are huge fry predators, so I would stick to a smaller species rather than a bigger one, give the cichlids a better chance. Even a group of neon tetras can resemble their distant piranha relatives if the cichlids aren't big enough to defend the fry. If you are worried about the fry, you can go with hatchetfish as they aren't likely to come down from the surface all the way to the bottom to fry hunt.

Great info guys thanks. Hatchetfish are neat looking but a little bland I'm looking for movement and color...still a nice option. I like the color and look of lemon tetras but I don't want them to crush fry :( I want to be able to at least pull them to raise in their own tank

As one of the greats in the cichlid hobby is fond of saying ... "A community tank is not a breeding tank." (M. Wise btw)

If it were me and I wanted to breed, I'd wait until two paired off and give them their own tank for breeding, and toss a huge group of lemons in the main tank.

OK great idea! Thank you so much for the quote! The lightbulb turned on!

It's not that you can't raise fry in a community tank, lots of people do. You will just pretty much always lose some. If you are trying to rear as many fry as possible, that's when you want to separate the pair.
