i have a tetra tank but the tetras keep killing off each other i just recently lost a red minor tetra and now there are two black phantoms, one red minor, one lemon and one pristella tetra i plan on adding more tetras but why are they killing each other and how do i stop it?

What is the size of the tank? Also most tetras do better in schools of 5+ to spread aggression among themselves.

Larger groups of your species would help lessen the aggression. I only have experience with larger groups of cardinals and congos, but I've never run across a problem with anything more than a little fin nipping here and there.

Are you sure they are killing each other? The ones you have listed are generally pretty peaceful community fish.

Blue
I wouldn't really consider tetras peaceful, they can be pretty devilish (mostly to eachother) sometimes, especially the more laterally compressed species. They do much better in large groups then singly or in pairs. Also, I assume the OP has physical evidence that the tetras are in fact killing eachother (shredded fish and the like)

only other fish in the tank is a small pictus catfish all the dead fish were shredded fins and partly eaten i dont think pictus would do this right?

Most likely not. Pictus catfish will eat anything they can get into their mouths, but I've never heard of them bullying or biting other fish.

I would think so too.

well that pictus did always fight with the other pictus i had before it died so maybe it is the one i had a sick five inch silver dollar in the tank for a mounth and a week and nothing died but after i removed it and before he came along to the tank there were alot of dead tetras so wat should i do?
