When I purchased the 50, it came with a TetraTec 500. It has a heater that is aparantly burned out and I have a pack of media for it. I am not using it on the 50 (set that up with UG) and am wondering what to do with it. I know that it is pretty much a POC, but at least I have it, am wondering if you folks have any suggestions. I AM considering another tank, if that helps.

Thanks,
Hetep

PS. Or is it just so bad it should be goodwilled?

you might as well keep it on hand in case of an emergency(wouldnt throw it away, also wouldnt give it away) . I had one befor and was not impressed with it at all. way too loud, hard to get going, need to tweak and fool with it all the time, ect ect ect.... if you want a HOB filter, go with an ac70 or 110. or better yet, get a good canister.

The tetratecs, when setup in a good fashion, are very good filters, and are comparable to an aquaclear.

So far, that's one vote for use it, and one vote for stick it in the top of the closet. Anyone else?

I have a TetraTec 300 & 500 on my 75G (overkill). The 500 is a better filter than my AC110 for a number of reasons:

- Directional output flow (three output tubes can send water in 3 different directions)
- Ease of maintenance (quick change filter pads & no need to clean bio-sponge)
- More BB (wet-dry design and bio-sponge doesn't get touched for up to a year.
- Optional Inbuilt heater.

I would definitely use it!
