My very young texas cichlids look like they are about to begin breeding. I do not have a clue in how to sex them, but the smaller one, about 2 inches has gone into breeding clors and is displaying for what I guess is the much larger females 4". Lots of digging going on too. So what age do this fish normally breed at? Are they good parents like convicts? How many eggs should I xpect with a successful breeding?

Hi,
I have pair of texas, and they are good parents like convicts. Texas can breed when they are young and you should expect MANY eggs. My pair is 5 inches long and they lay 1000 to 2000 eggs.
You can sex texas looking at the dorsal, the female is going to have a black spot in it.
Best Regards, Carlos.
