I am thinking about getting a T and my friend found one early this summer in Arkansas that he is thinking about giving me. I have done some research and the only tarantula known to be in arkansas is Aphonopelma hentzi aka the Texas Brown. The most i have found about these is they are found in rocky terrain and live in abandoned mouse tunnles. Do they burro on their own or just live in abandoned holes?
I was wanting to know what kind of substrate, what size housing (tuperware is fine with me), what percent humidity, and things like that?
What kind of foods?
I know that these are kinds of questions that i need to answer for myself as a first time T owner but i was just wanting info from multiple sources. So any info or links will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Im not sure on that perticular type,go to this site and ask them.On mfk their are a handfull of us that keep Ts,keep in mind that males dont live as long and once matured they will roam looking for females until they mate and then die in some case in not too long. Some are opertunistic burroweres and they will use burrows they find or you make.Others are burroweres and do it themselvs. Then you got aboreal ones that will use tree hallows or make webs up high to chill in.Sorry I dont know much on your texas brown,if I felt better and wasnt sick I would go searching for you but just check this site out, somebody will know, good luck.http://www.tarantulas.us/forums/search.php?searchid=87618

if you get it though we would be glad to hear about it here and see pics,I didnt mean to send you elsewher other than the fact that their are only a handfull of us here that keep Ts.

thats fine. i understand. Thanks for the link!

Jason seems to be the top spidey guy around here. He knows a lot about how to care for T's and has some very impressive ones.

I forgot alot of stuff but Im getting more into it again.Ive got books and the net but it does help alot to have the hands on experiences with them.Mine are quite common but I do have 3 that are not for the faint of heart. The goliath, the king baboon and the OBT are a bit trickier.Ive had my ups and downs, lol.I think their are some ppl here that know alot more than me but they dont speak out as much.Rakie, remember him, with the Hitler avatar, lol. He tends to be no bs and straight to the point but he really knows his stuff.I think their are some others.Anyways,Ts are such a cool creature to have around and study. After over 10 years of having them every time I get one out I think damn, this big ass thing is a real spider, lol.

is it possible that your friend just caught a large wolf spider and is calling it a T because its so big?
