what is the ideal diet for a texas/carpinte cichlid, i have been feeding my 3-4" one NLS sinking pellets, he also clears up after my 6"tiger oscar (i feed him hikari cichlid gold and cichlid sticks)

what else or what should i be feeding him??

thanks

sam

feed him whatever you'd fed any other cichlid.

Quarantined feeders
Cichlid Pellets
Earth worms
Krill
Various types of fish fillet
Crustaceans

The list goes on and on...

i done a google search on carpinte before i made this thread and they said about peas lettuce spinach and other vegetarian foods.

are these needed?

i have been told they need some vegetation in there diet too.

mine get some algae disks or some vegetarian pellets, but they'd never toch lettuce or peas...

I use Omega one veggie pellets to get my veggies into my fish :)

I use Hikari's cichlid excel (the one they and market toward african cichlids) and my fish dont have any problems eating that and the gold pellets. I also use NLS sinkin pellets.

mine like to eat anything they are hogs. I think just a varied diet would be good for them. I have read people keeping texas to old age and large sizes on just goldfish food.

My fish get a mix of lettuce, peas and market shrimp blended and frozen in an ice tray. As a treat
