what's goin on? I have a Jack Dempsey in a 40 gallon tank, just added a Texas cichlid today. the JD is believed to be male, texas is female. JD keeps beatin on her.. the dempsey was raised from a baby by me solo or with a pleco and this is the first real tank mate its being introduced to. do you think they will get along or do you think the JD is guna beat the texas senseless?
I'll post some pictures later.
any comments suggestions greatly appreciated.

First off the 40 is to small for either one as an adult.... Get a 100, 75 minimum if you want to have any chance of them getting along.. If the JD had been in the tank ass her life then you will have most likely no chance of the texas living because the JD has already established the tank as hers... It would have been better if you had the JD and the texas grow up together as juvis

a couple o ??

Size? Is there a size difference between the 2?

Decor? When you add a new fish to an established tank, I feel that moving out the decor and changing it up, so it's almost like a new tank. That will difuse some aggression.

Pics??

the tank is way to small for both of them.....they'll never coexist peacefully in that small of a tank.......also the JD has already established a territory in that tank and isn't letting in another cichlid.........your best chance on the JD not killing the texas is to move the decor around so it can possibly establish a territory......good luck.............

Bill. If you need a home for him he can come in my 75:naughty:
Call me and you can come get the no-spill.

they are both small right now. i'm deffinatly guna get a bigger tank soon, i'm guna do a 100. I just got a job at a pet store so i'l be geting things cheeper hopefully. They are nowhere near adult status yet. they are about 3 and half - 4 inches each. this is a new tank i had the JD in a 20gal solo i just put her in the 40 within the past month. i got some PVC caves, and some rock hiding spots. i might add a new cave tonight and hopefully it will stable out a bit. thanks for the comments. all greatly appreciated.
