So this is the 3rd time around my Texas Cichlids have laid eggs, but the previous two times were unsuccessful. The first time I left them as they were cause I was told they would protect their young. They were eaten though however before becoming free swimming. The second time I separated the new hatchlings from the parents into a net breeder, before they became free swimming also as to prevent them from being eaten. They all died however. Could anybody offer me some advice? My Texas are currently about 3 in., they are in a 10 gallon however, have moved them yet.
I reckon it could be the size of the tank.

give them at least 2.5 gallons, though 5g is recommended. use sponge filter and feed flakes or crushed pellets.

For starters, get a bigger tank. Secondly, your pair is very young so its normal for them to eat the eggs/fry. Just give them time and after a few tries they should get the hang of it.

It's been a while. But decided to try and give breeding the Texas another go. Now they are in a 46 gallon and have spawned. What's the next step? Should I remove anybody? Or separate the parents?

watch the parents for aggression to each other, but you should be able to leave them to the task of raising them.they learn from it.many cichlids i have bred, don't get it correct the 1st few times.if you plan to raise some of the young, wait till they are free swimming, then siphon off only half of them.the parents may get violent to each other if you take too many babies at a time
