First off, Hi!

I'm Daniel! I have been keeping cichlids for around two years now which is pretty long time since I'm 15 in two days. I full maintain all of my aquariums, A 55 gallon, a 30 gal, and two ten gals, and my mother's 20 gal aquarium and 20 gal pond. :headbang2 I'm awesome I know lol. I have a number of different fish species but my prized fish are my Red Bay Snook "Jaws" 6 inches, (if you have one you know why) and my Large Mouth Bass. I enjoy cast netting thats how I got my Bass.

Any way, I have three (started with five, they got eaten i feel terrible) "Texas Cichlids" that was what they where labeled as any way they all three are black and grey with faded stripes that darken towards that tailfin. They are defiantly not Black Convict Cichlid, I have seen a number of Texas Cichilds, and I know they aren't dark. I thought when I bought them they where maybe a new strain. Help? But I'm now thinking they might be a hybrid of some kind:cry:

Daniel.

First off, netting game fish is illegal pretty much everywhere. You might want to check your regulations before you decide to go poaching your local lakes. Secondly, none of your tanks are even close to being big enough for a largemouth or even one Texas cichlid. A Texas alone can make a 75 gallon look smallish, and largemouths need something in the 6x2 to 8x2 range AT LEAST.

OOOO... I didn't know that netting game fish was illegal I also didn't catch it in a lake or pond it was in a creek or very small river. I'm am VERY sorry... Yeah, you are totally right about the size of the Texas Cichlids, and I didn't plan on keeping the Large Mouth Bass I have been feeding him live fish to help keep him "wild" I have only had him for a few months, he was on 3 inches when I caught him. I am currently save up ever penny I can get to buy a 125 gal tank which I would have the money to buy at the end of the summer! Can't wait to get that. Thank you for telling me about the netting issue. Thank you Thank you!

And again I'm only 14 so please have some mercy with me.

Okay, I have looked at most of the regulations I could find. I will be more careful in the future! Also I am in the process of building a pond right now. I wasn't going to put my LMB in there but I think that that would be the wise thing to do. :D Again thank you for educating me!

You might post some pics of the Texas Cichlids to see if folks here can help identify them.

Hello Raetek and welcome to MFK! If you could post a picture we'll try to ID the fish for you.
When I was a kid I used to net LMB and Bullhead catfish in the lake, it was the only fish I could get, that and Killies in my killie trap I didn't have any money to buy fish. I remember seeing a picture of a Jack Dempsey and thought it was coolest thing I ever saw, when I asked my parents they looked at me like I was nuts my father said "there's a whole ocean full of fish and you have to go buy one?" it made sense to me, so I went back to the lake with my net. I think you're doing a great job taking care of all those tanks. You're right the LMB will do best in the pond and if you get that 125 you'll be about 20 years ahead of me. We all learn as we go making mistakes along the way is part of the process. Good luck and ask all the questions you want that's what we're here for.
