Texas Cichlid personality?

I know they can be real jerks to other fish. But are they out and about in the tank more or hiding more. I really like SA/CA Cichlids but many seem to be reclusive. Wondering if Texas are going to be hiding all the time or cruising the tank. I would really like to find an Escodido.

Would a texas and Jag work together in a 125?

My carpintus location "chairel" (very similar to loc." escondido") are very outgoing, and seldom hide.
With certain other species of cichlids, they are very territorial though. Mine could not be housed with Paratilapia in a 125, but are fine with Herichthys bartoni in a tank as small as a 75.
Why, I'm not sure, in nature carpintus share habitat with bartoni, and mine grew up together, so this may be the reason, and share that same tank as adults, (except when breeding).
