i have 2 texas cichlids, and since i am new to cichlids i am not sure what type of texas cichlids they are,but after having them for 2 weeks one has turned a darker color and the other stay light colored .. are the colors meaning male female? or stress ? need some cichlid peeps to help me out here as i am still learning:)

i should mention when ever i get close to the tank they head to the top of the tank and wait for food.. like this pic shows

Better pictures would help, but my guess would be H. Cyanoguttatus. The small spotting in the top fish looks like a true "Texas" cichlid. You might have a pair if the darker one is in breeding dress. They can spawn at that size. Nice pickup. Adult male below.

I agree w cavamart. Looks like the one on the bottom could possibly in it's breeding dress. They both look fairly young but Can breed around 4".

its possible that the darker one is male and the lighter the female you will just have to wait and see how it turns out. My texas cichlids are about a year and a half and i still cant tell their sexes..
