So I just acquired this beauty...about 4 5 inches...can anyone confirm that this is a Texas cichlid? And any guess on it's sex? Thanks in advance.

Really nice fish. It may be a male, because caprintis females might have a black/blue blotch on the dorsal fin. But venting is the most reliable way for sure.
Here is male carpintus to compare, note the slope of the profile and lack of dark color in the dorsal
