Texas Cichlid? Sex?

It looks female to me, due to the torpedo shaped profile. But...
there are many factors that can contribute to that, if there are some larger more dominant cichlids, males sometimes keep a "low profile". The feature that helps the most is a black blotch in the dorsal that happens when females hit maturity.
Here are some 1-1.5" Herichthys

The dominant male in the middle is easy to spot with high steep profile.
Below a little older, still high "forehead, and not dark markings in the dorsal.

But below a female, note her more torpedo shape, and dark markings.

below the same female but younger, before getting mature, and darker

I would agree with the profile pointing it towards being a female. I've raised a few batches of carpintis by now and most of my males would have bigger foreheads by that size than the females would.
