Got a great deal on a Texas today, a little larger than I wanted, so I had to put him in with my new Mayan instead of my other tank. Right off the bat they started getting into it and battling for dominance. I think the Mayan will win, but I hope the Texas will be fine in the morning. I put some fake driftwood in there to give him some hiding spots in case he needs it. Not sure what else to do in the meantime. I am thinking of throwing my Bocourti in there to break it up. Unless that sparks more drama. :(

Most Texas cichlids wont give up that easily in a fight. They're tough SOBs.Also I noticed you're from St Charles, I live in North Aurora.

So far he is doing just fine. Both are on the bottom at opposite ends of the tank and keeping neutral corners. :) Yeah I can tell he is tough for sure. It is somewhat cool in the tank, so hopefully that will minimize aggression.

Small world, I used to manage North Aurora Dental Associates many years ago. lol

I have only been in North Aurora for 5 years, I actually work in St Charles now.As for the Texas, I use to have one that was very bulky and 5 inches or so, I came home the one day and found a huge wound on both sides of him.I will never be able to find a true Texas anymore in my opinion of his size and personality. This is the photo of my juggernaut.\

I got him from a wholesaler I found when I was looking for substrate choices. I got lucky with him. My kid and I are at Sea Escapes all the time, and the Mayan was from there as a rescue. They didn't know what it was, but I thought he was cool and of course I asked on here what kind of fish it was and got a response within minutes after I bought him. Some smart mofos on here.

I've gotten lucky with some of Sea Escapes fishes, they are very knowledgeable in the store at times.Around spring break, they had a 14 inch Jaguar that was dropped off for destroying the tank mates in a 75 gallon.

They have a few rescues in that shallow open water tank usually. I'm waiting for something really juicy to pick up. They have a couple blood red parrots right now. If they still have them when my 400 gallon tank is cycled I might pick them up.

I have a blood parrot, it is some what cool and has a attitude, but it can't compete too well against my Cuban and Vieja Bifasciatus for territory.
