the manger in the lfs asked me to help him out he had a tank full of jds and what they thought were texas chiclids i'm not a good person for idenfying cichlids i knew the jds do the texas have the black pattern done the lateral line 1/2 the length .

yeah, very small texas cichlids are generally very light grey and may possible have very faint blue or green spots. they will have 3-4 black blotches along the back half of the body. The first blotch would be near the caudal peduncle and the other 2-3 spots would be spaced just far apart so as not to be touching with the last blotch being pretty much right in the center of the fish, and if you "connected the dots" they would form a mid-lateral line. Hope that helps. :)

You were blue? Thats odd.... HAHAHA

I have 2 texas cichlid. One I rescued from a friend and it is very small (about 4-5"), this one seems to be very tame. My large one (about 11"-12") used to fight my 13-14" buttikoferi and win most of the time. It all depends on the fish.
