A friend gave this 8” cichlid to me today. It was sold as a red Texas at 2-3” but...

it hasn’t been kept in a proper size tank, in a divided 40 breeder due to aggression. I took him home and soloed him in a 125.

question what is it? A red that hadn’t popped? A green Texas cichlid? Or another carpintis?0B9E0FA1-5262-48F4-8FE5-7A8CC04A27F5.jpeg1351EF27-854C-4DF8-A2C8-590A9CB825AE.jpeg

thanks for help identifying ?

It's one of these, an unfaded Red Texas Cichlid.
I kept this guy for several years. He grew to ten inches & had a very sharp set of teeth. Lol. Totally vicious. Tankmates need to be big & vicious as well.
A very beautiful hybrid. I eventually traded him.

+1 on unfaded red

Yeah the guy who gave him to me said if you’re thinking of tankmates you prolly can forget about it. I said how about a Haitian black nasty...he said this particular red Texas would destroy it ? based on reputation of course, every fish “can” be different ?

This is his first morning in the tank and he’s already moved all the substrate, nawed on the filter intakes, yanked out all the tubing on the sponge filters and started shredding all my plants! I’m in love! ?
