I have started stocking my new tank, 50" x 24" x 24". I currently have 2 x female jack Dempsey and 2 jewel cichlids. I am thinking of adding a Texas cichlid but not sure if it will work. I am going to add a couple of severums as well. Advice greatly received thanks

you should be able to do it if you have enough caves and hide-spaces - the length will be your biggest problem-area. IDK about the Severums though......a Texas will work

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it would be the severums or a single Texas not all together

I bought a Texas yesterday and all hell has broken loose. My male jewel has started going on a rampage nipping at my jacks and the texas. Do I get rid of the jewels are add something else that will put him in his place?

None of the cichlids you have chosen are known for their placid nature.
Jewell cichlids for their size are very aggressive. Every texas cichlid I have owned has grown up to be very aggressive.
In my experience JDs can be a bit more laid back but aggression will vary between individuals and some are down right nasty.
Your tank although not a bad size,is just too small for the fish you re choosing to live together.
Severums can be a bit easier going but get to a big size.
If you like Severums, have you looked at rotkiels they are very attractive and a little smaller.
You could have a pair with some nice catfish and medium sized tetras.
It would be an interesting tank and a lot less hassle. It would also be kinder on the fish.
